Classes & Pedagogy

As a beginner the emphasis is on having fun while learning discipline, work ethic, acquiring strength and gross motor skills. Engaging in true physical education, the FAP program uses a variety of games promoting strength, coordination, tactical understanding nand technique for the developing athlete.  To experience success all that is required is a willingness to work hard and have fun.

In addition to the development of physical qualities, fencing develops concentration, tactical and strategic thinking, and perseverance. Success in fencing is not based solely on size strength and speed; victory goes to the smartest and most determined.

When appropriate, competition is introduced as a part of the fencing experience with emphasis on learning the competition skills that lead to results. With competitions for all ages and levels, the sport is enjoyed by both recreational and competitive fencers!

FAP offers classes for everyone from age 8 -18 as well as well as evening classes for adults.  All classes meet twice a week with new students being accepted 4 times a year. All classes are taught using the foil. Beginners learn basic movement skills, gross motor skill and tactical footwork.
